After making a trip to the NBA Finals last season, the Dallas Mavericks are more confident in their abilities to win a championship sooner rather than later. Considering the addition of another former champ, Klay Thompson, to the roster, they have a real shot at winning it all. Kyrie Irving, a man who knows all about winning championships even through adversity, reiterated the same sentiment.
In a post-game interview, after the Mavericks annihilated the feeble Portland Trail Blazers 132-108, Kyrie Irving made some bold remarks. In the NBA, “dynasty” is one of those terms that is sure to turn heads and raise questions—and Kyrie did just that.
The Ankletaker proudly proclaimed that the Mavericks are planning to build a future dynasty around the star of the team, Luka Doncic.
Answering more questions from the reporters, Irving opened up about how confident he is in the skills of his teammate, Luka Doncic. Doncic made a return to the court after missing two of his last games due to a left heel contusion. In his comeback, Luka looked very much like his old self, tallying 27 points on sharp shooting of 10-19 field goals, plus seven rebounds, seven assists, and a steal.

Kyrie Irving also contributed with 20 points to help secure the win. He emphasized the importance of relying on others as part of the team, noting how sometimes “you gotta be carried and be okay with that as a leader.”
Currently, the Mavericks sit in 4th place in a cutthroat Western Conference and are scheduled to go head-to-head with Anthony Edwards‘ Timberwolves on Christmas Day.
Kyrie Erving explains why he calls teammate Luka Doncic his “Hermano”
There’s a sense of growing brotherhood in the Mavericks organization, especially between the two stars of the team, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Irving has referred to the Slovenian baller as his “Hermano” in multiple interviews, which translates to “brother” in Spanish.
Explaining the tight bond, they share on and off the court, Kyrie once said during Luka’s absence: “We miss you, Hermano.”
The Luka-Kyrie duo is averaging over 52 points per game, and if they can stay healthy throughout the regular season, that number is only going to increase in the playoffs. Both players are known for their ability to take over games during clutch moments.
Despite falling short last year in the finals and getting knocked out in just five games, the Mavericks appear to have grown closer and stronger. The brotherhood they share is reminiscent of soldiers who’ve been through battles together. Coming this Christmas Day, fans can expect another dominant performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves on the Mavericks’ home turf.
