Kevin Durant has a pattern of retorting to disgruntled parlayers, which is ironic considering his deal as a spokesperson for one of the biggest sportsbooks, FanDuel. Nonetheless, KD has made his stance on gambling and parlay pickers perfectly clear. After Friday’s victory over the Detroit Pistons, Suns forward KD gave a sassy reply to a female gambler.

Finishing the night with a team-high 36 points, KD was pivotal in the Phoenix Suns‘ 125-121 triumph in Motor City. Celebrating the close road win, KD posted his now-viral pre-game dancing clip with the caption, “Have a good night, Detroit.” This attracted a lot of vitriol from Pistons fans, who had probably just lost a huge sum of money. However, one angry female fan’s comment, in particular, caught Durant’s attention.

When the Detroit native wrote that she “don’t like” him, KD replied, “What I do?????” To this, the fan responded, explaining how Durant spoils her parlays and that he isn’t really funny, despite believing so. This evoked the former champion to quote verbatim Kyle Kuzma’s recent remarks aimed at gamblers, “Damn…maybe I’m a** at picking parlays”.

What Kuz say yesterday. Maybe u just stink at cookin up parlays. Good thing is, you can learn from these mistakes and be better next time.

Kevin Durant replied

This wasn’t the first instance where Kevin Durant responded to enraged gamblers. Although he himself is guilty of sharing his NFL playoff picks in collaboration with FanDuel, he has previously called out an NBA fan over his “gambling problem.”

Today, athletes promoting sports gambling and fantasy sports is the norm. Leagues have also partnered with various sportsbooks, preferring regulated and monitored gambling over illegal wagering and shady activities. Simultaneously, they discourage their players from gambling, and cumulatively, it keeps the scandals in check.

Phoenix Suns’ star faced a barrage of backlash from the fans after he referred to himself as a “service worker” in response to fan criticism of his FanDuel partnership. KD partnered with FanDuel in February 2022 in a multi-faceted deal which included content creation across web, video, audio, editorial, and social media.

When a fan highlighted the dichotomy of Durant sharing his NFL picks while being anti- gambling, KD expressed his frustration with the parlay community.

No, I tell u to stop complaining about this life that you’ve committed to. When u lose, there’s finger pointing. When u win, there’s gloating about how smart you are about seeing the future. No gratitude to the service workers like myself. I’m sick of it.

Kevin Durant tweeted

Durant’s remarks highlighted how the parlay community tends to engage in finger-pointing and online bashing after losses, while offering no gratitude when they win—something that is, in his view, taken for granted.

Next, former Finals MVP and his Phoenix Suns will fly out to Cleveland on Monday to test their roster against the team who is the number one seed in East with a league-best record of 35-6. Surely enough, millions of dollars will be wagered on this game alone by recreational gamblers, degenerates, high-rollers, and data scientists—all chipping in with whatever little they have to make the casinos richer, only to lash out at their favorite athletes in the end.
