Devara, featuring the talented Jr NTR, has been hitting all the right notes in theaters since its release on September 27. According to Sacnilk, the movie has raked in an impressive Rs 253 crore net in its first 12 days. However, Devara has not quite matched the commercial success of Jr NTR’s previous blockbusters like RRR, despite receiving mixed reviews.
In a candid interview organized by the makers, Jr NTR opened up about how audiences have started to scrutinize every aspect of a film. He lamented, “We’ve become so cynical as viewers. We’ve lost the ability to simply enjoy a movie for what it is.” Jr NTR pointed out that people now watch movies with a critical eye, constantly analyzing and dissecting them.
The beloved RRR star reflected, “Our relationship with cinema has changed. We’ve become a society of critics rather than enthusiasts.” Jr NTR mused on how viewers have evolved over time, leading to a shift from pure enjoyment to critical evaluation.
Optimistic about the future, Jr NTR mused, “Perhaps this is just a phase. Maybe we are in the midst of a cycle that will eventually circle back to a more balanced approach.” Drawing a comparison, he mentioned how his sons simply revel in the magic of movies without overthinking, raising questions about why audiences seem to have lost the innocence of pure enjoyment.
Despite the critical lens through which movies are now viewed, Devara is steadily approaching the coveted Rs 500 crore milestone worldwide. Jr NTR and director Koratala Siva are gearing up for the sequel, although they have temporarily paused due to other commitments.
Highlighted by the debut of Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in Telugu cinema, Devara also showcased stellar performances by Prakash Raj, Shine Tom Chacko, Shruti Marathe, Murali Sharma, and more. Audiences were captivated by their portrayals, adding to the allure of this Jr NTR starrer.
