Jorge Masvidal blames 'idiot' Nate Diaz for trying to compete against UFC 302 after boxing bout delay

Jorge Masvidal wasn’t happy with Nate Diaz‘s decision to go up against the UFC. The much-awaited boxing match between Diaz and Masvidal was forced to be rescheduled for a month. It happened due to UFC 302’s fierce rivalry with the boxing bout on the same date. After the announcement, Masvidal blamed Diaz for the irresponsible decision.

Jorge Masvidal recently did an interview with ESPN MMA where he talked about the delay. The fighter revealed it was Nate Diaz’s call to go against UFC which ultimately has cost them.

You don’t want to go up against other dates and other fight events. Especially, you don’t want to go up against UFC. So, from the beginning, I was trying to switch this date. Nate’s a f—king idiot. He was adamant about staying on that date because he’s not a UFC employee no more and, ‘I don’t have to do nothing for the UFC,’ and this and that.

The fight between Diaz and Masvidal was initially scheduled for June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Now the fight will take place on July 6 during Independence Day weekend at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Fanmio PPV will broadcast the 10-round light heavyweight bout.

UFC 302 is expected to be one of the biggest PPV events of 2024. The card is stacked with incredible fights such as Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier‘s lightweight title clash. It was obvious that both Masvidal and Diaz would have suffered if they had gone against their former boss.

Diaz’s last outing as a boxer didn’t go as planned as he lost to Jake Paul via unanimous decision. The retired UFC veteran would like to get the first win of his boxing career against Masvidal. On the other hand, the Miami native cannot wait to get into the ring with Diaz.
