The upcoming Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic legacy fight has been the talk of the town in the MMA community. The โ€˜GOATโ€™ vs. consensus UFC heavyweight GOAT remains an exciting prospect. However, the fight has attracted a massive wave of criticism due to the old age of Miocic. UFC flyweight GOAT Demetrious Johnson also has a similar view.ย

As the heavyweight champion, fans want Jon Jones to defend his title against the interim champion. However, Jones believes his fight with Miocic is more significant than fighting Tom Aspinall. Demetrious Johnson recently shared his views on the fight and proposed that Miocic and Jones could still fight without putting the heavyweight title on the line.ย

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic doesn’t even need for a belt. Like that’s legend fight, those to are fighting. I’m sure Jon Jones is still gonna get the exact f***** pay whether he’s a champion of not.ย

DJ predicted that an โ€˜old and inactiveโ€™ Stipe Miocic wouldnโ€™t be able to go against Jones in the fight. Johnson mentioned that he would love to see Jones fighting a young and hungry Tom Aspinall, and thatโ€™s exactly what a lot of fans want as well. However, โ€˜Bonesโ€™ and Dana White believe Miocic vs. Jones is the right fight to make.ย

Aspinall, on the other hand, is trying his best to get the title shot and has accused Jones of ducking him. Jones believes that he has done enough professionally to be called the GOAT and would like to retire on his terms. Jones has participated in 16 title fights and never lost once. However, there was one achievement that the fighter missed out on.ย

Jon Jones could have been a simultaneous UFC double-champion

Jon Jones is the youngest-ever UFC champion and has spent over a decade dominating the UFC light heavyweight division. Irrespective of the positive PED tests, criminal records, and other controversies, Jones was a force of nature inside the octagon. The last time Jones lifted the light heavyweight title was in 2020 and later vacated the title.ย

Jones had plans to move up and try his luck in the heavyweight division. After three years, in 2023, Jones did the same and defeated Ciryl Gane to become the heavyweight champion. However, according to Demetrious Johnson, Jones could win the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles.

For him to come back and do that at Heavyweight, I think he didnโ€™t have to go up to Heavyweight to do that. He could have done that at 205 and held both those belts. He could have been another champ-champ if he really wanted to. He looked great.

By doing that, Jones would have become the fifth-ever simultaneous UFC double champion. This feat has been achieved by the likes ofย Conor McGregor,ย Daniel Cormier, etc. However, it seemed like โ€˜Bonesโ€™ had a different plan and didnโ€™t want to fight simultaneously in two divisions.
