Jon Jones gives his take on Curtis Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall

Jon Jones is the heavyweight kingpin. Recently, he stirred up a social media frenzy with a math problem involving championship belts. Jones took a not-so-subtle jab at heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes and interim champion Tom Aspinall. This was while boasting about his own illustrious title reign.

Jon Jones took to X to jab at the UFC 304 co-main event fighters with a clear message. Jones flexed his long list of title accomplishments while dismissing the credibility of Blaydes and Aspinall. Moreover, he also combined his achievements with Stipe Miocic to insinuate the importance of their legacy fight. He insinuated that they had yet to capture UFC gold.

Some Saturday math for everyone.ย Curtis 0 + Tom 0 championship belts = 0.ย Jon 14 + Stipe 6ย  championship belts = 20.ย To be fair to Curtis and Tom, I didnโ€™t count my interim title win either lol. But yeah, sure, you guys are fighting for the real belt. #Facts

Curtis Blaydes had recently announced that he and Tom Aspinall were fighting for the โ€˜real belt.โ€™ The duo will face each other in the co-main event of UFC 304. This would be a rematch that would see Aspinall defend his interim belt. Blaydes also snubbed Jones as the champion, and this is what prompted Jonesโ€™s response.ย

Jones is potentially set to fight Stipe Mocic. He remains one of the greatest in MMA history despite his controversial past. The heavyweight champion does not acknowledge the credibility of Aspinall and has used X to downplay the British fighter at every turn. As such, he does not expect Aspinall to defeat Blaydes in their upcoming showdown.

Jon Jones wouldnโ€™t be surprised if Curtis Blaydes beats Tom Aspinall

Jon Jones is analytical and outspoken. He talked about Tom Aspinall and his overconfidence going into the Blaydesโ€™ fight. He was a little bit skeptical of Aspinallโ€™s hype, though. As such, Jones expressed no surprise if Blaydes beat Aspinall.

I wouldnโ€™t be surprised if Curtis won, Iโ€™ve seen scenarios like this time and time again. Dude prematurely drinking his own Kool-Aid ends up with a huge piece of humble pie. I mean If Sergei can touch Tom that easy, Iโ€™m sure Curtis can too. When Curtis decides to go, heโ€™s a lot faster than people realize, and he hits hard. A few well-timed shots and that strong top game, it could be a long night for old Tommy boy. Either way, Iโ€™ll be watching, excited to have some additional footage.

This jab at Aspinallโ€™s perceived overconfidence is a familiar narrative in combat sports. Many a promising prospect have fallen victim to their hype, only to be humbled by a seasoned veteran. Jones seemed to believe Blaydes had more chance to defeat Aspinall than people give him credit for. Jonesโ€™ comments have undoubtedly added fuel to the brewing rivalry between him and Aspinall.
