Joe Rogan might be the biggest fan of former UFC champion Glover Teixeira. Rogan recently sat down with the legendary Royce Gracie on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. During the conversation, the pair talked about Teixeira and his impact during his prime.
Joe Rogan went into detail and revealed how Glover Teixeira lost his prime years in Brazil as he couldn’t come to the US. Interestingly, Texeira was the main training partner of the legendary Chuck Liddell. However, he only entered the UFC only in 2012 with an incredible 17-2 record. As such, Rogan and Gracie talked about the former light heavyweight champion.
People don’t know how good Glover is because Glover could not fight in the UFC for six years because of visa issues. During his prime, Glover was stuck in Brazil, and he couldn’t come to America. Glover was the boogeyman. Glover was the number one guy that everyone talked about.

Teixeira illegally entered the US at the age of 19 and then got married to his wife. However, it wasn’t enough for him to secure a green card. Hence, the fighter took his lawyer’s advice, returned to Brazil, and waited for the US’s forgiveness for initially entering illegally. During this time, he stayed away from his wife and struggled a lot in Brazil.
In the end, Teixeira recovered and went on to have an amazing career in the UFC. At 42 years old, he was crowned the UFC light heavyweight champion. The Brazilian fighter emerged victorious over Jan Błachowicz as the new champion, although his reign was short-lived. The Brazilian is currently retired and remains devoted to instructing his student, Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira.
Joe Rogan talks about Glover Teixeira coaching Alex Pereira
Alex Pereira‘s journey to the top of UFC is nothing short of a fairy tale. The former Glory Kickboxing champion took the promotion by storm and has already won two titles in different weight classes. According to Joe Rogan, Glover Teixeira is one of the major reasons for Poatan’s meteoric rise.
During one of his Podcast episodes, Rogan revealed that both Pereira and Teixeira helped each other to win championship bouts.
What Alex has done which is really interesting to me is he teamed up with Glover. When he teamed up with Glover … it’s an interesting camp. Like who’s going to Connecticut to fight for world titles? Glover. And Glover’s resurgence all coincides with him training with Alex. When Alex came and started training with him, that’s when Glover really made his last run and went for the title and beat Jan. Because iron sharpens iron. I think he needed a f***ing assassin in camp with him, a young assassin like Pereira.

Pereira recently defended his belt at the iconic UFC 300 and extended his legacy as a superstar. Teixeira’s input on Pereira’s game plan has helped him dominate most of his opponents inside the octagon. It would be interesting to see if the fighter can retain it and become the first-ever fighter to win belts in three different divisions.
