Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is one of the most highly acclaimed players in the NBA and for his franchise. He has been the most important player on their roster alongside star man Jaylen Brown. However, former NBA player Brandon Jennings raised questions regarding Tatum being the ‘softest superstar’ in the Celtics’ history.

During a recent appearance on an episode of Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, Gil’s Arena, Jennings made these contentious remarks regarding Jayson Tatum. During that episode, he raised the subject of whether Tatum is the softest star in Celtics history and asked why Tatum didn’t win Finals MVP last season instead of Jaylen Brown.

Jennings received a reaction if that’s what he was hoping for. Tatum responded to Jennings’ remarks on social media. With the sarcastic caption, “SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy,” Tatum shared a collage of images and videos on Instagram. In fact, Jennings himself commented on Tatum’s answer, writing, “This is the energy I want!!!!” in the comments area.

Based on Jennings’ reaction to Tatum, it seems possible that this was a trick to evoke an answer from Tatum and, in some way, enable him to go to the next level of his career. With a shooting percentage of 46.3 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from the three-point line, and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line, Tatum has been averaging 28.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals this season.

In addition, Tatum also has some pressure to win the NBA MVP Award this season. Mostly because his teammate Jaylen Brown won the NBA Finals MVP last season and Tatum did not win any personal accolades. Despite Tatum claiming that he is not interested in personal awards, the pressure still revolves around the Celtics star to win some.

Brandon Jennings’ recent criticism of Boston Celtics star man Jayson Tatum caught everyone off guard. Particularly because Tatum has been a crucial player for his side in recent years. Given that, Tatum’s trainer Drew Hanlen came in support of the Celtics star, as he took to X to put forward his support towards Tatum.

Drew Hanlen wrote on X, “I liked Brandon Jennings as a player but we gotta stop the Cap. His comment that Tatum is “soft” is pathetic. A soft player couldn’t lead their team in points, rebounds & assists to a title. A soft player wouldn’t have 51 in a G7 or 31/11/8 to win finals.”

In addition, Tatum’s focus is to win another title with the Celtics this season. The Celtics are still 27-10 and in the second spot in the Eastern Conference standings, despite their most recent meltdown loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Until proven differently, they are the reigning champions and one of the league favorites.
