UFC lightweight Jared Gordon recently fell to 8-6 with one no-contest in the UFC. He fought as recently as the inaugural UFC Saudi Arabia event. The longtime 155lber has always taken his losses in strides. No one can forget the controversial nature of his loss against British fighter Paddy Pimblett. In a shocking turn of events, a judge who robbed Gordon now wants something from him.

Gordon fought and fell at the wrong end of a unanimous nod against Paddy Pimblett. The controversial judging in the co-main event of UFC 282 pay-per-view had caused quite a ruckus. Many felt Gordon should have won. Others called it the worst scoring by Doug Crosby and other two judges in UFC history. Now, Gordon revealed a message he received that judge Crosby wanted to interview him.

I got this video message from @ChaelSonnen the other day. The judge who fudged me in the Paddy fight, Doug Crosby, is asking to do an interview with me, what ya’ll think? Apparently he hasn’t judged a fight since that one…

A major point of contention in the decision was Doug Crosby’s scores for the first and second rounds for Pimblett. Ron McCarthy submitted the same card, but Crosby was the focus after controversial scorecards on consecutive nights. Gordon’s upload follows a message from Chael Sonnen, who informed him Crosby scored the Bellator 289 main event before the Las Vegas Pay-per-view.

Much had been made of the controversial scoring back then. Even then, controversial scoring continues to upset the MMA community. The MMA scoring remains convoluted as ever, with many advocating open scoring systems. Now, the question is, why does Crosby supposedly want an interview with Jared Gordon? Is he recanting? It would seem odd, given he stood by his scoring morales.

Doug Crosby hasn’t officiated the digits on a fight ever since Jared Gordon vs. Paddy Pimblett. The reason for this was that he was the sole player in back-to-back controversial scorecards. His Bellator 289 scorecard at Uncasville, Connecticut, went similarly. He scored it 50-45 for Danny Sabatello in the interim bantamweight title and Bellator Grand Prix semis against Raufeon Stots.

The other two judges scored Stots 48-47, who many thought won clearly. This prompted Mohegan Tribal Sports Commission Director Mike Mazzulli to review the fight with all three judges. However, the veteran official claimed moralistic obligations and rules in favor of his dissenting judgment calls.

There is a system and protocols in place for officials to comment on fights that they have judged and I respect that…As far as me commenting on particular fights right now or maybe ever, that is up to the discretion of the administrators. That’s not me trying to duck out of answering hard questions about judging fights but there is a process and I respect the process.

Crosby said he can’t comment directly on the scorecards given for a specific fight. But that the athletic commissions have rules in place when it comes to judges divulging details, and he’s not going to go against them. Crosby’s 50-45 scorecard for Sabatello was the first scoring database where a losing fighter won all rounds from one judge. The case of Gordon was just the worst kind of sprinkle on top.

As a result, Crosby came under direct fire and hasn’t had a similar capacity for a judging stint ever since. While assigning a numeric value to extensive forms and techniques remains a tough gig, Crosby became a cautionary tale. Given that he has supposedly requested an audience with Jared Gordon, he might notion some changes.
