Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya at UFC 305

Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis are going to face off in a highly anticipated title fight this August. With just a few days away from the showdown, Robert Whittaker shared his prediction for the fight. The former champion has placed an interesting fifty-fifty wager on both fighters.

Robert Whittaker recently sat down for a discussion on his MMArcade Podcast. In the recent episode, the former middleweight champion tackled the oncoming title fight between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis. According to Whittaker, there is a fifty percent chance the fight goes either way.

They are 50-50 odds, that is how much I think either one can sway… 50-50, my money is on those two results, kinds of methods of winning.

Whittaker thinks there is a 50 percent chance Adesanya keeps the middleweight champion at bay with his jab and utilizes that space. He also thinks that there is a 50 percent chance, Dricus Du Plessis does what he did to Sean Strickland. Pushes into that space, takes him down, wears him out, and turns it into a dogfight. Even if the South African does not get a finish, he may drag it out and remain the champion.

Robert Whittaker believes Du Plessis was getting underestimated to a degree. Supposedly, the South African champion โ€œfights really awkwardโ€. Whittaker called back to his fight against Du Plessis last year.

I felt like he was slow and cumbersome and then he punched me in the face. And that might be one of his greatest weapons, just a fly under the radar that makes people think heโ€™s not up the scuff, then you get in there with him and he beats you.

The South African managed to dominate Whittaker, first taking him down in the first round and landing heavy ground-and-pound strikes. In the second round, Du Plessis switched to a southpaw stance, which led to him knocking Whittaker down with a powerful right hand. Du Plessis then finished the fight with an onslaught of strikes, earning a TKO victory.
