Good things are happening in the MMA fight scene. Dustin Poirier recently revealed that fans can expect a fourth showdown with Conor McGregor, only if everything goes right. ‘The Diamond’ is currently 2-1 over the Irish UFC star and has an upcoming title fight this June.
Dustin Poirier recently sat down for a conversation with sports journalist Jake Asman. During their discussion on ESPN, Poirier talked about potentially going for a fourth showdown with Conor McGregor.
It could happen, if the stars align. But it just feels like even talking about it after going for the rivalry with him for so many years and fighting him back to back in 2021. As I prepare to get ready for a fight week for the undisputed belt, Conor McGregor is fighting a guy whose last fight I choked him out of. It just feels so far removed, and so many things have to happen before then.

Poirier vs. McGregor’s trilogy is one for the books. ‘The Notorious’ won the first fight way back in 2014 at UFC 178. He finished the fight in under two minutes of the first round. They met again in 2021 at UFC 257 where McGregor lost his first fight in this trilogy. They had an immediate rematch that same year at UFC 264 where Conor McGregor famously broke his leg which put him out for a couple of years.
Though it is exciting news for all MMA fans, Poirier and McGregor are currently busy with other things. Poirier is fighting for what could be his final title total shot at UFC 302. His opponent is the lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, trained and mentored by Khabib Nurmagomedov who defeated Poirier back at UFC 242. Meanwhile, McGregor is making his long-anticipated UFC comeback at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler.
Is Dustin Poirier getting custom shorts for UFC 302?
The idea of custom gear is very exclusive for a UFC fighter. Even some of the top contenders on the UFC roster have not been able to get their hands on some custom gear for their fights. However, looks like Poirier is on the UFC’s good side and he might be finally getting his own custom shorts for his upcoming fight.
Poirier’s fans are reportedly called the “gilly goose gang”, a term Poirier recently coined after his UFC 299 win. One fan recently sent out a question for ‘The Diamond’ on X. He asked Poirier if he could tell the ‘gilly goose gang’ what colored shorts he would be wearing when he gets the title at UFC 302. Poirier promptly replied to the tweet typing “Floral”.
As of now, Max Holloway was the only fighter to get his own pair of ‘floral shorts’ for UFC 300. Poirier is often seen adorning floral shorts while training. Could he be telling the truth and walking into the octagon with his own pair of floral shorts to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 302? Only time will tell. They will fight this June at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.
