Lately, there has been a lot of buzz about the UFC welterweight division online. The division includes some really exciting fighters, such as Ian Garry, Kamaru Usman, and Colby Covington. Recently, the Irishman stated his wish to fight Usman. Interestingly, while stating that, the undefeated star also seemed to take a shot at his rival Covington.

Ian Garry revealed that Kamaru Usman turned down a potential fight with him. The proposed matchup was set for UFC Tampa on December 14. Interestingly, Usman recently posted a photo with a caption that read, “I’m ready to Slide.” Garry seized this opportunity to mock Usman for refusing to face him in the Octagon. In his remarks to Usman, Garry also took a jab at Colby Covington.

Ready? Really? I thought you were built different, but turns out you and Colby are more similar than I thought. Say YES see you December 14th!

In the unique style of Ian Garry, he berated the former champion by likening him to Colby Covington. Interestingly, Covington and Garry aren’t best friends. As such, both UFC welterweight fighters have been going back and forth from earlier this year. One of the reasons why Garry drew this comparison is because Covington reportedly declined to fight the Irishman.

Usman has been inactive since last year when he moved up a division to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. However, after losing that fight, he aims to return to welterweight. When Belal Muhammad became the new champion at UFC 304, Usman expressed interest in facing him as his next opponent.

Unfortunately, that is no longer an option, as Shavkat Rakhmonov is now set to fight Muhammad at UFC 310 in December. This leaves Usman with a few options. Some available options are Ian Garry, Jack Della Maddalena, and Leon Edwards. It will be interesting to see how the UFC plans the upcoming UFC welterweight matchups.

Garry is training with a former UFC fighter, Demian Maia, in Brazil. As a result, the Irishman frequently spars with former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. Maia recently discussed Garry’s development as a fighter since joining them. He even mentioned that the undefeated welterweight prospect has the potential to achieve great success in his career.

(Ian Garry) is a great guy. He’s a star in the making for sure… He’s nice, he’s humble in his personal life. He wants to learn…very open to learn, very smart fighter. I think he had the tools to be a champion. For sure, he’s gonna for the title…
