When current President Joe Biden was campaigning for re-election to the White House, the usually Democrat-leaning NBA community was not completely sure. Now, with Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee in the upcoming US Presidential Elections, the NBA community has rallied to support her. But a legend of the game, Magic Johnson, has had an even larger role than those extending their support.

The Hall of Famer was a guest on ABC’s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live. When host Jimmy Kimmel suggested that Johnson knew Kamala Harris for a long time, he replied with a brief history of how he supported the current VP. Magic Johnson did not bother keeping it a secret that he had supported Harris at every step of her political career.

Yes over 20 years. I supported her when she ran for Attorney General for the state of California. I raised a lot of money for her when she ran for Senator of California of course. She’s ready. She can bring the country together. Last but not the least, foreign leaders want her to win, because they know they can work with her.

The Lakers legend might not have mentioned it, but there is no doubt from what he said that he is supporting Kamala Harris in her bid to become the 47th and first Woman President of the United States of America. He believes in the agenda she has brought into her campaign.

The former Los Angeles Lakers great also talked about her fight for women’s rights. He also believes in her ability to unite the country when the other side is allegedly trying to divide it. His support is in line with what the NBA community has done so far.

Magic Johnson and NBA supporting Kamala Harris

Johnson may be the leader of the Kamala Harris support group, but he is not the only one. Once President Joe Biden stepped aside from the campaign, the NBA community came together to support Harris. Many were already in her corner, but the first major show of support came from Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

His leading superstar Stephen Curry donned his Olympic gold medal when his pre-recorded video was broadcasted at the Democratic National Convention. Other than these obvious displays of support, the basketball community has tilted back towards the Democratic campaign.

Even WNBA stars donned t-shirts to support Harris before and after games. But the most famous one of them, Caitlin Clark broke the internet when she liked Taylor Swift‘s Kamala Harris endorsing social media post. With the elections not far away, how all this support impacts the results will have to be seen.
