The future of Julius Randle at the New York Knicks doesn’t look as bright as it once did. Especially after the team made aggressive moves in the past year to acquire the likes of Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. Given the uncertainty surrounding his career, some people have suggested he should be traded for Dallas Mavericks star Karl-Anthony Towns.
However, former NBA player Rashad McCants appears to disagree with that proposition. In a recent episode of Gil’s Arena Show, the rising tension between Randle and the Knicks was discussed. During the discussion, Gilbert Arenas casually asked who the franchise would get to replace him given the current situation.
To that, ex-basketball star Brandon Jennings proposed that they get rid of Randle for Karl-Anthony Towns. To which McCants threw the suggestion aside, saying: “I like dogs, not cats”.
With Knicks fans ripping off Randle posters after the situation last season, lots of question marks have emerged and with good reason. Given that he’s no longer loved in New York as before, other players like Towns have been considered as replacements. Despite this, McCants is adamant that Julius Randle is still valuable to the team despite links with Towns.
His statement likely insinuates that the Knicks only want players who can play rough and do the dirty work. Not someone like the Mavericks star who is not known to be aggressive in the paint or ‘play like a dog’. Nonetheless, basketball fans anticipate seeing how the future between the Knicks and Randle will unfold. He averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season, but shoulder injuries forced him out in the second half of the season.
