Sean Strickland has adopted the waiting game until he receives the UFC middleweight title shot. Recent events indicate that the UFC intends to stage a title-eliminator battle between Strickland and Robert Whittaker. However, the ‘Tarzan’ is adamantly opposed, believing Whittaker does not deserve the opportunity.

Strickland recently took to X and shared his dissatisfaction with potentially fighting a red-hot Whittaker riding a winning momentum. ‘Tarzan’ has already cleared that he will only fight if given the title shot and nothing else. Given his current rankings, Sean Strickland roasted critics for thinking about giving Whittaker a title shot before him.

The thought that whittaker gets a title shot before me is fucking wild..Bro you’re 0-3……  With a stoppage lol I beat both those cunts lol….. Do rankings matter?! Do the right thing UFC..

Whittaker lost his UFC title to Israel Adesanya in 2019 and failed to win it back in a rematch. After losing to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 290, many fans and experts wrote the fighter out of title contention. However, the Australian star turned the tide with two successive victories, the most recent coming against Ikram Aliskerov last month.

On the other hand, Sean Strickland bounced back from his title loss to Du Plessis by beating Paulo Costa. The fighter also claimed he was robbed of a win against the South African champion at UFC 297. As such, ‘Tarzan’ plans to reject every fight except the title fight against the champion. Nevertheless, the MMA community hopes to see a Strickland vs. Whittaker battle.

Sean Strickland has an extremely unconventional fighting style. His variation of the ‘Philly Shell’ technique and forward pressure style remains the biggest reasons for his dominant win against Israel Adesanya. Similarly, the current champ, Dricus Du Plessis, also had difficulty dealing with Strickland’s ‘frustrating’ approach.

According to Demetrius Johnson, Kamaru Usman showcased how to defeat Strickland in 2017. Usman emerged victorious in a dominant outing against ‘Tarzan’ in a welterweight showdown. DJ suggested Whittaker have the same game plan going against Strickland in the future.

Robert Whittaker just had gotta take a page out of Kamaru Usman’s book and basically model what Kamaru Usman did to Sean Strickland. Kamaru Usman beat the living hell out of Sean Strickland and Strickland’s style hasn’t changed.

Whittaker has been desperate to get his belt back since he lost it. He came close in the second Adesanya bout, but he will have to go further this time. This depends on the UFC and whether Strickland accepts the bout. The future remains bleak at the moment. More updates on the division’s future will come about after the UFC 305 middleweight title fight in August.
