Pereira belongs to the indigenous Pataxo tribe from Brazil and doesn’t hesitate to showcase his tribal roots. During his official weigh-ins, the fighter paints his face and wears a headdress in order to honor his ancestors. Pereira’s nickname ‘Poatan’ translates to stone hands in Tupi, the ethnic language of his tribe. It makes sense, given Pereira’s devastating left hook.Â
