Nikola Jokic has been one of the best players in the NBA over the past few years. He has won 3 NBA MVP Awards and the 2023 NBA title in his tenure as of yet. He is regarded as one of the best centers to grace the game by many NBA experts and ex-players. His former teammate and ex-NBA star DeMarcus (Boogie) Cousins was one of them.

DeMarcus Cousins, who played for the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans, was formerly one of the NBA’s top forwards. The Denver Nuggets were a short-lived team for the four-time NBA All-Star. When Cousins appeared on FanDuel TV’s Run it Back Show, he recently talked about his old teammate, Jokic’s dominance.

He’s not a pushover. He’s not a chump. He’s not afraid of the moment…. Your only chance of beating him is actually just beating him. And that’s easier said than done.

In addition to this, Cousins also added that he can see Jokic being in the top 5 best players of the all-time list if he wins another NBA title. As per Cousins, Jokic is already in the top 10 best players list. Very few would argue with Cousins’ take as Jokic has dropped consistent performances throughout the seasons he has played in.

The Nuggets superstar just finished a season in which he was named the 2024 MVP. In 13 games, he has shot 55.9% from the field and 52.7% from three-point range, averaging 29.7 points, 13.4 rebounds, 10.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Hence, it will be interesting to watch how the Serbian superstar performs going forward in the 2024-25 NBA season.

DeMarcus Cousins had a ‘confusing’ take regarding Nikola Jokic winning 3rd MVP award

Before Nikola Jokic won his 3rd MVP Award, a lot of noise was surrounding whether he deserved to win the award or not. The stories, particularly the lack of postseason success, were hurting his chances of winning MVP.

Regarding this, his former teammate, DeMarcus Cousins also chimed in with his take on the ‘Shoebasketball’ Podcast. This was in reference to the 2022/23 NBA season where the voters did not give the award to the Serbian superstar.

I am not okay with it being 3 MVPs in a row because then it becomes a conversation, ‘Is this the best basketball player to ever touch a basketball?’ I think we can all agree that he’s not. He has not won anything, he hasn’t been to the Finals.

It is difficult to witness a guy win MVP three times in a row without ever reaching the NBA Finals. Interestingly, Joel Embiid appeared to have surpassed Jokic in 2022/23’s MVP competition. However, Jokic shut down his critics and naysayers by winning the NBA 2023 title and showcasing why he deserved to be the right-worthy NBA MVP award winner.
