With 40,000 points to his name, no one in the history of the NBA has reached these numbers. But for LeBron James, it is his reality of success and reaching milestones game after game. The 39-year-old, being the oldest active player in the league, hasn’t shown any sign of slowing; and given his illustrious career, with nothing but success on the road, his work on the court as many people believe should be rewarded with a statue. But Gilbert Arenas and Shannon Sharpe think otherwise.
Last night the four-time NBA champion, reached another milestone of 40,000, marking and continuing his reign in the NBA even while edging fatherhood. There is no denying that what he has done to the world of basketball is astonishing and praiseworthy – maybe even a statue to honor his deeds as a Los Angeles Lakers player. But for some, they don’t believe he has done enough for them.
Arenas while giving reason as to why James is not worthy of a statue outside the Grand Crypto arena of LA, said,
Hell naw. He [LeBron James] don’t have enough accolades in the Lakers uniform. The title… he’s only played six years. The closest statue we had to that was Shaq. He had three rings in eight years. That’s the bottom. So it is going to be hard to put him there with six years… 8,000 points, and one championship. That’s not good enough for a statue in Los Angeles.
It has been a debate for a while on whether he deserves gratitude and recognition from the city. But as Arenas pointed out like many, that one championship is not enough for him to be presented with that stupendous honor.

The fans have come up with fascinating reactions and are pretty much divided over the topic of Lebron James deserving his own statue. However, only time will tell whether the NBA stalwart will truly be immortalized in bronze alongside the Lakers legends in the upcoming years.
