Paddy Pimblett vs. Bobby Green is just around the corner for UFC Manchester. After intense online rivalry, many remain excited to see the two finally face off in the octagon. However, it turns out Bobby Green was never on Paddy Pimblett’s list of fighters he wanted to fight. Here is what happened:
Paddy Pimblett recently sat down to have a conversation with Oscar Willis. During the sit-down, Pimblett revealed he had another opponent in mind to face at UFC 304. As such, Green becoming the opponent caught him off-guard a little bit. Moreover, he blasted Green for lying about the past callouts.
I’ll be honest, I wanted to fight Moicano. I wanted to fight [the guy] ranked No. 10. Moicano is funny. We’d have a good little build-up. Bobby Green is just a bell**d. … He’s a proper tool. He’s a proper weapon. He is. The funniest one is, he says, ‘He mentioned me.’ I didn’t mention you! You mentioned me first. So then I mentioned you, you little sausage.

Meanwhile, Bobby Green had already done his trash-talk at UFC 300 when he called Pimblett a “spoiled brat” and told him he needed to “shut the f*** up.” Green remains the next best option for a rising star like Pimblett. The British fighter needs a step up in challenge, and Green’s striking and takedown defense could present problems.
The other day, UFC CEO Dana White announced the fight card for UFC 304. Most people expected Renato Moicano as the ideal opponent for Pimblett. The Brazilian fighter has risen in popularity with his exciting trash-talks and called out Pimblett multiple times. As such, Pimblett was taken aback when Green became his opponent instead of Moicano.

Paddy Pimblett said he could see himself knocking Bobby Green out at UFC 304. He could also see himself finishing the American fighter via submission. Pimblett recalled someone saying that Bobby Green never faced a submission loss. ‘The Baddy’ wants to be the first person to submit Bobby Green.

If I beat Bobby and take rank 15, or whatever happens with the rankings by then, Moicano is still a couple of ranks above me. I just think the build-up to that fight will be great as well. Moicano is funny. He’s a great grappler, I’m a great grappler, I think we’d end up just having a brawl on the feet.

Pimblett admitted that Green has good striking. However, he said that Jalin Turner had basically destroyed his chin last year. As such, he expects to defeat Green and move on to Moicano. Surprisingly, Pimblett has only good things to say about the Brazilian lightweight. It will indeed make fans happy if such a fight comes to fruition.
