The San Antonio Spurs were defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies 129-115 on Wednesday night. But the dunk that occurred made—or rather, wasn’t made—was the game’s major highlight. Even though it didn’t count, Ja Morant added another memorable moment to his expanding collection of crazy dunks. Ironically, this dunk comes after Morant stated earlier that ‘he won’t dunk anymore in the NBA.’
When one thinks about highlight-worthy performances in the NBA, the Grizzlies point guard usually springs to mind. When Spurs player Stephon Castle attempted to block Morant’s shot to the basket late in the fourth quarter, he was called for a foul. Despite receiving the whistle, Morant maintained his rise and slammed down a tremendous dunk over the gigantic Victor Wembanyama.
It was more than simply trash talk. Morant’s unwavering competitive advantage was the reason. He has become one of the league’s most thrilling players throughout the years because of his acrobatic finishes. The slam failed to count, but it demonstrated his ability to take on opponents of any size or repute. Morant’s fearless approach is what makes him a special player in the NBA.
Michael Wallace: “When you saw [Wemby] and you saw the opportunity…”
Ja Morant: “It was another person at the rim. I’ve dunked on plenty of people, bro. He don’t get no pass. If you at the rim, I’mma try you at that situation.” 😳

Regarding the game, this was the 41st time in Grizzlies club history that Morant finished with 20+ points and 10+ assists in a game (most by any player). Against the Spurs side, he finished with 21 points and 12 assists. He had two steals and went 1-2 from beyond the arc and 9-13 from the field. Morant will be hoping to do the same in their reverse fixture on Friday night.
Ex-NBA star had huge praise for Ja Morant’s poster on Wemby
In his half-decade NBA career, Ja Morant has amassed more posters than fans can recall. However, many people cannot claim to have climbed “Mount Wemby” when Victor Wembanyama joined the league in 2023. Morant did just that against the San Antonio Spurs. This led to a wild reaction and praise from ex-NBA star, Kevin Garnett.

Morant had previously scaled the fictitious staircase to posterize Wembanyama. He did it during the previous season when there was debate over whether or not it was a valid poster. The majority concluded that although Wemby was dunked upon, it wasn’t a poster. However, this time around, Morant made sure to put those debates to bed.
