The hype and excitement around the RBC Canadian Open 2023 did not disappoint. The prestigious tournament was filled with highs and lows this year. A piece of history was also scripted as Nick Taylor became the first Canadian representative to win this tournament since 1954. He was surrounded by some of his fellow native golfers and friends. One of his friends Adam Hadwin got caught up in an unlucky situation. The golfer was tackled down by a security guard, who mistakenly took him as a fan.
Hadwin, who has been long-time friends with Taylor, could not control his excitement. He would rush towards him with a bottle of champagne. A video going viral on social media sees the golfer getting destroyed by the guard, who assumed a fan had run onto the course. Hadwin soon found himself surrounded by a team of security.
A few moments later the guards would recognize him and help him off the ground. He would later join Taylor in his celebration. Hadwin finished at 11-under par while being tied for 12th position. His wife, Jessica Hadwin later shared an update about the incident and informed that the golfer has apologized to the security team in โTrue Canadian form.โ

Despite being taken out by the security team, Adam Hadwin was in no rush to cut short the celebrations. The final hole of the tournament saw Nick Taylor come out on top of Tommy Fleetwood through a play-off round. The final action was witnessed by several Canadians, who were hoping for the historic moment. Rory McIlroy, the defending champion finished with a top-9 finish.
Taylor marked his name in folklore by putting away a 72-foot putt in the fourth play-off round. An emotional Taylor was unable to form words to describe this occasion. โThis is the most incredible feeling,โ he said after claiming the win. Hadwin later took to his Twitter account to congratulate his friend and mentioned how proud he was.
This win by Taylor ended a 69-year drought for a Canadian winner. Pat Fletcher was the last person to emerge victorious from this tournament, all the way back in 1954. This was also the first tournament to take place after the shocking news regarding the merger between the two tours of PGA and LIV was announced.
