Former Watford star Steven Berghuis gets banned for punching rival fan for making racist comments

The following paragraph discusses the importance of regular exercise for maintaining good health and overall well-being. Exercise is not just a physical activity but also has numerous mental and emotional benefits that can improve the quality of life. Whether you are young or old, fit or not, incorporating exercise into your daily routine can have a positive impact on your health.

Steven Berghuis will miss the first three games of Ajax Amsterdam’s 2023-24 campaign. The Striker has accepted a settlement proposal from KNVB that will see him banned. The ban was handed to him for punching a rival fan.

Berghuis, a former Watford player, was observed approaching a gathering of fans in May and then leaning over the railing to throw a punch. The 31-year-old forward then attacked a Twente supporter from a rival team. According to reports, Berghuis became angry when a spectator reportedly said something “racist” to Berghuis’ teammate Brian Brobbey.

“Steven Berghuis on Monday agreed to a settlement proposal from the professional football prosecutor of three matches’ exclusion, one of which was conditional,” was the statement from KNVB. The striker was handed a two-match ban. He shall serve suspension for another match owing to him accommodating 5 yellow cards.

From Feyenoord, Berghuis moved to Ajax at the beginning of the 2021–22 campaign. Due to the fierce rivalry between the teams, his decision raised a lot of criticism in the Netherlands. He participated in 42 games with Ajax, contributing to 11 goals and 11 assists. He was selected the team’s Player of the Year as a result of his performances. For the first time since 2009, Ajax had a dismal season as they placed third in the Eredivisie, thus missing out on the top two slots for the Champions League.

In addition to missing their striker, Ajax can now also lose out on their central defender, Jurrien Timber. The defender has not renegotiated his contract at the club. Liverpool and Manchester United are in the race to sign him. His current deal expires in 2025.

When quizzed on his future, Timber commented: “Will I stay with Ajax anyway? I’m not sure, I can’t stay that. I’m not in talks with Ajax now. My agent had a good talk a few times, but it’s not like we’re talking about anything right now.

Harry Maguire may be leaving Old Trafford, therefore United is anxious to boost their roster during the most recent transfer window. They have been in contact with the defender for a long time now. Meanwhile, Liverpool is seeking long-term improvements to a team that has only received modest upgrades in defense and midfield over the past several years. The adaptable defender, who can play either center-half or right-back, would be a wonderful addition to either of these groups.
