Sean O'Malley has bleak hope for UFC 306 headliner

The anticipation for UFC 302 has reached a fever pitch. Fighters and fan alike are taking their picks of the winners of the card. UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has also thrown his hat in the predictions. His prediction on the headliner between Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier sways away from the majority.

The typically brash champion boldly predicted that Dustin Poirier would successfully submit Islam Makhachev with his infamous guillotine choke. The outspoken champion has thrown his weight behind the prowess of Dustin Poirier in an unexpected move.

I believe in fate buddy, Dustin Poirier guillotine’s Islam round number 2, that’s what I’m thinking. No, that’s what I know is going to happen.

Sean O’Malley has placed all his chips firmly in the Dustin Poirier camp. He brazenly predicted that the Lafayette slugger would defy the odds. Poirier has never finished any opponent with the guillotine choke. But O’Malley remained optimistic. Poirier himself had recently stated that if he defeated Makhachev with a guillotine, he would make a statue of this moment in his front yard.

Sean O’Malley definitely believed in Poirier’s statue-building dream. He felt that Poirier would finally get that fairy tale ending to his storied career. The lightweight belt has eluded him throughout his career. But O’Malley felt that this was Poirier’s time to shine like a diamond.

The UFC bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley harbors a major ambition. He wants to headline the massive UFC 306 event at The Sphere in Las Vegas. This fight would potentially be against Merab Dvalishvili. But unfortunately for “Suga,” his odds of making that dream a reality appear increasingly slim.

O’Malley admitted in recent comments, that he had been hearing “little rumors” about potential fights booked for the Mexican Independence Day. However, the charismatic 28-year-old confessed the UFC hasn’t actually engaged him about landing that prime spot.

I keep hearing little rumors about who’s fighting in the sphere. But, there have been no talks between me and the UFC about [fighting in] The Sphere

UFC CEO, Dana White had mentioned earlier that the Las Vegas Sphere had been specified for Mexican Independence Day. He had even shut down rumors about a Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor fight at UFC 306. White cited that he was looking for Mexicans to fight on the Mexican Independence Day. O’Malley being American unfortunately doesn’t qualify that criteria.
