Dustin Poirier will face Islam Makhachev in a few days at UFC 302. The 35-year-old fighter has planned to bring his seven-year-old daughter to see him fight in the octagon live. Although many fighters believe in keeping their family life and professional life separate, โ€˜The Diamondโ€™ has other plans.

Dustin Poirier recently sat down with Andreas Hale from ESPN MMA. During their discussion on ESPNโ€™s YouTube channel, โ€˜The Diamondโ€™ discussed bringing his daughter to the upcoming fight.

I just don’t wanna take that from her childhood of one chance to feel that energy in the arena. I think she’s old enough and mature enough as she can be for a seven-year-old kid to understand and enjoy this journey, I don’t wanna look back and wish she could have witnessed this or I wish she could have felt this energy and been in the arena. I want to give it to her now you know and we’ll see how it goes.

โ€˜The Diamondโ€™sโ€™ daughter goes by the name of Parker Noelle Poirier. Poirier said in the interview that she was born into fighting. According to her father, Noelle understands what her father does, and sees him come home with stitches and black eyes.

Poirier was the interim lightweight champion in 2019. There is a video on the internet that same year of Poirier promising his daughter to bring two belts back home. Will โ€˜The Diamondโ€™ be able to fulfill his promise to his daughter? Only time will tell.

It turns out, Dustin Poirier has carried his monicker since his amateur days. With raw talent, Poirier has refined and honed himself to become a fighter of utmost resilience. That was why his team bestowed him the nickname โ€˜The Diamondโ€™.

The Cajun fighter has 39 professional MMA fights under his belt. He made his first big break fighting at WEC in 2010 before it merged with the UFC. His first fight with the promotion was in 2011 at UFC 125 and Poirier won that fight. He will now throw down in the cage against Dagestani champion Islam Makhachev in what could be his final shot at a UFC title. The fight is at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.
