Dricus Du Plessis made an interesting statement at a recent event. He said he wishes Khamzat Chimaev beat Robert Whittaker in their upcoming fight. He also mentioned wanting to fight Israel Adesanya and called him the best in the game after him. Here is what happened:

Dricus Du Plessis was recently present at a breakfast event by Compass Medical Waste Services. During his interview, he discussed Khamzat Chimaev, his upcoming fight with Robert Whittaker, and wanting to fight the undefeated Chechen.

I just wish he beats him. Because Khamzat almost in a way known in the UFC as this boogieman that fights maybe and everybody seems scared of him. I would love to fight him. I would love to beat Adesanya and then beat Khamzat Chimaev. That’s how I see it in my head.

Du Plessis clarified that he wants Chimaev to win, not because he is necessarily better than Robert Whittaker. He has already beaten Whittaker and now wants to fight Chimaev. Whittaker vs. Chimaev is one of the most awaited fights in the middleweight division. They will fight this June and headline the main event of UFC Saudi Arabia.

Du Plessis won the middleweight championship title at UFC 297. He has yet to fight his first title defense. The former champion, Sean Strickland has been pushing for a rematch but Du Plessis wants to take his time. He was initially supposed to fight Israel Adesanya when he was the champion so it would be the perfect turn of events if he fought the ‘The Last Stylebender’ now that he holds the championship belt.

They were previously supposed to clash at Sydney for UFC 293 but Du Plessis backed out due to injury. However, the rivalry is still stronger than ever. Adesanya had previously threatened to drag Du Plessis’ carcass across Africa.

‘The Last Stylebender’ has not stepped in the octagon since UFC 293. His camp has revealed that the two-time middleweight champion will make a comeback anytime soon. There is still time for UFC 305 and nobody knows what the UFC officials are planning. It will be interesting to see the two have a showdown by the end of 2024.
