Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is probably one of the most controversial matchups of 2024. The fight pits Jon Jones, arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time, against Stipe Miocic, who is widely regarded as the most successful heavyweight in UFC history. Now, this controversial matchup has a date and a venue, straight from the UFC head honcho, Dana White.

UFC CEO, Dana White announced that the two heavyweights will face off at UFC 309 this November at Madison Square Garden. White recently did an interview with Complex Sports where he gave his official statement on the matchup.

Jon Jones is gonna fight in Madison Square Garden in November. And then if he wins, or Stipe wins, we see what happens next.

The fight was initially delayed due to an injury Jones sustained. Stipe Miocic has held the heavyweight belt twice and defended it more times than any other fighter in the division. However, he has not fought since March 2021, when he lost his title to Francis Ngannou by knockout. Now 42 years old, Miocic is looking to reclaim his title, and there are rumors that this fight might be his last, as he could retire afterward.

If Jones wins, itโ€™s speculated that he could face Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion. Fans are eager to see how he would fare against Jones. Many fans are looking forward to this matchup even more than the one with Miocic.

In fact, Aspinall has tried everything in his power to provoke Jones into a fight, but he is adamant on fighting Micocic first. In fact, once Aspinall got under Jonesโ€™ skin so much that the champion gave a scathing hate filled reply in the comments of an instagram post.

However, should Miocic win, retirement seems likely, leaving the heavyweight division in a state of flux. Madison Square Garden is a venue known for hosting historic combat sports events. The co-main event of UFC 309 is likely to feature Charles Oliveira against Michael Chandler adding to the cardโ€™s appeal.

McGregor, who has not fought since his injury in 2021, was originally set to fight Chandler at UFC 303. But various delays, most recently due to McGregorโ€™s injury and other issues have derailed the bout. Chandler, tired of the uncertainty, has decided to move on. He is expected to fight former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 309, headlining the co-main event. Meanwhile, McGregor, whose return date remains uncertain, lashed out on social media, blaming Chandler for moving on from their fight.
