Dennis Smith Jr. has been making waves in and around the NBA community after his recent declaration on The OGs Podcast. Notably, Smith Jr. has been targeted by many NBA sides. The San Antonio Spurs, the Miami Heat, and LeBron James‘ Los Angeles Lakers are some of the interested parties. Interestingly, Smith Jr. opened up on this recently.
Smith isn’t currently on an NBA roster, but he did play in 56 games with the Brooklyn Nets last season. Also, in July, he was supposedly a target for the Dallas Mavericks, but he was never signed. In addition, Smith Jr. disclosed the list of teams he thinks he might contribute to right away. He did mention certain teams which has alerted the fanbases of these sides.
It’s important to note that Smith Jr. did not mention the Lakers at first. Instead, he was more titled towards the Spurs and Heat side, with the Minnesota Timberwolves also getting a mention. He then mentioned the Lakers at the very end, showcasing which team he prioritizes the most and the least in the NBA regarding his next move.

In 18.9 minutes per game with shooting splits of 43.5/29.4/74.1, he averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 assists last season. Since the 2021–22 season began, his defense has gotten better, averaging 1.3 steals each night. If neither team manages to add a rotation player before the trade deadline on February 6, Smith might be a compelling option for teams like the Lakers and Spurs that are hoping to make the playoffs.
Dennis Smith Jr. named the ‘toughest’ PG he ever faced in his career
On The OGs Podcast, Dennis Smith Jr. spoke about various topics regarding the NBA and its players. Not only that, during the fan questions segment on the show, the 27-year-old was asked to name the toughest PG he faced in his career.
Smith claimed that one of the best point guards he has ever faced is Tyler Ulis, a former NBA player who is currently the assistant coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball team.
Despite having the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and Stephen Curry in the league, Smith Jr went with Ulis. This showcases the quality the assistant coach must’ve passed during his playing time back then. Now, it remains to be seen if Smith joins an NBA side this season.
