In a recent development, a Bengaluru court has decided to postpone its decision on Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s plea for bail until October 14. The bail request for Darshan and his partner Pavithra Gowda, the primary suspects in the Renuka Swamy murder case, will be determined on the same day. The courtroom was abuzz with arguments from Darshan’s senior counsel, C.V. Nagesh, and Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar, who represented the prosecution.

During the proceedings, Darshan’s counsel raised concerns about the credibility of the eyewitness in the murder case, suggesting that they may have been influenced by the police. He also questioned the reliability of the tower positions and IP addresses associated with the accused, pointing out that they could have been tampered with, given the wide coverage area of the tower location.

“I am not here to argue for Darshan’s innocence. My goal is to secure his release on bail,” the counsel emphasized. He criticized the flawed and suspicious nature of the investigation, urging the court not to solely rely on tower data for their judgment. Additionally, he highlighted Darshan’s lack of awareness about Renuka Swamy until Pavithra Gowda distanced herself from him due to his trip with his wife.

Contrary to the defense’s claims, SPP Prasanna Kumar presented a compelling case regarding the delay in witness statements. He mentioned that dozens of witnesses were present at the shed where the crime occurred, and their mobile tower locations and call records, along with those of the accused, pointed to the same location. Allegedly, Darshan and Pavithra Gowda were seen arriving at the shed in a black Scorpio, with Darshan later admitting to assaulting Renuka Swamy.

The prosecutor disputed the defense’s argument about the defendants’ association with Darshan and the dismissal of call data as evidence. He referenced the Supreme Court’s stance on the importance of call logs in criminal investigations, emphasizing their significance in this case.
