Daniel Cormier retired from fighting in 2020 and has since fully embraced his role as a UFC commentator and presenter. Known for his humor and strong relationships across the UFC, DC is widely respected as a legendary figure. However, when things go south, it doesn’t take long for the former double champion to show his competitive edge.
At UFC 308, welterweight fighter Rinat Fakhretdinov won against Carlos Leal, which the commentary team questioned. After the fight, the welterweight fighter slammed the commentary team and mentioned that there were “Really bad commentators” on the panel. Recently, during UFC Edmonton, DC responded to the criticism and gave an unhinged answer.
All media members who submitted scorecards scored the fight in favor of Carlos Leal, with the majority giving him every round. Despite this clear consensus, he ended up losing his promotional debut. While Rinat Fakhretdinov avoided his first UFC loss due to the official result, Cormier mentioned that he was ‘gifted’ the victory.
“You got gifted a win. Take it.”

Due to his achievements, the retired two-division champion often receives a great amount of respect from many fight fans. However, in the fight business, there have been several instances where the Hall of Famer had to take a strong stance. Surprisingly, the UFC Edmonton event in Canada was one of those busy fight weeks for DC.
Daniel Cormier responds to a Jon Jones fan
Initially, at UFC Edmonton, Daniel Cormier was called out by his former rival Derrick Lewis for a rematch. The ‘Black Beast’ surprisingly called DC a ‘piece of sh**’ to which the former champion had a confusing reaction. On top of that, during the Q&A session, Cormier had to deal with a disrespectful Jon Jones fan.
The rivalry between Jon Jones and Cormier is undoubtedly one of the nastiest in UFC history. The fan asked DC about Jones potentially retiring from UFC Madison Square Garden and mocked him by calling him “Jones’ son.” Cormier, as expected, gave a detailed explanation and didn’t forget to befitting reply.
Jones and Cormier share a love-and-hate relationship that involves great mutual respect and animosity. The pair have not been on good terms for years since their last fight. According to DC, he doesn’t need to be friends with Jones after everything that happened between them.
