Dricus Du Plessis came out victorious at UFC 305 by defending his middleweight title against Israel Adesanya. It took DDP four rounds to submit Izzy, who has never been submitted in his whole professional career. With the win, DDP is aiming for his next title defense, and as it turns out his plans contradict with boss Dana White.
At UFC 308, Robert Whittaker is scheduled to take on Khamzat Chimaev in a much-anticipated middleweight bout. Ahead of UFC 305, Dana White mentioned that irrespective of the winner at UFC 308, Sean Strickland deserves the chance. However, when asked about his favorable opponent, DDP mentioned Whittaker being the most deserving one.
Robert Whittaker deserves the title shot. I think he’s been done over. Sean Strickland’s only saving grace is the fact that he went decision with me.

Sean Strickland lost his belt to DDP at UFC 297 and bounced back by defeating Paulo Costa. Since then the fighter adapted the waiting game, forcing UFC to make the fight. On the other hand, Whittaker is currently on a red-hot two-fight win streak.
DDP has already beaten Whittaker during his title run and recently credited him for proving the doubters wrong with his latest performances. He even mentioned that he would give the winner of Chimaev vs. Whittaker the title shot instead of Strickland. Given the clash of ideas, it would be interesting to see who gets the next title in the future. Right now, Du Plessis is on the top of the world enjoying his victory.

Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya fight was extremely entertaining with both fighters giving their best to win the bout. It was going back and forth until DDP decided to finish the fight in the fourth round. It was Izzy’s chance to get back his middleweight title but his dream was shattered. Although, he isn’t the only one who incurred a loss.
Ahead of the fight, Canadian rapper Drake placed a whopping $450K bet on Israel Adesanya to win the bout. However, the result didn’t go as he expected. Dricus Du Plessis took this opportunity to mock the rapper on his X account.

Drake and Israel Adesanya are both collaborators with the betting platform Stake. Drake frequently bets on Izzy however, his recent record has not been that great. At UFC 293, the hip-hop artist lost $500K after Izzy lost to Sean Strickland in the title match. Given the recent results, it will be interesting to see how much Drake bets on Adesanya next time.
