Colby Covington‘s most recent UFC appearance didn’t unfold as he had hoped, but the 36-year-old fighter is far from done. The ‘Chaos’ is now eager to embrace new challenges and explore fresh opportunities in his career. For Covington, moving up and fighting someone like Sean Strickland could be a great choice.

Colby Covington has long been at odds with Strickland, with the two exchanging countless verbal jabs online. Now, he is eyeing a move to the middleweight division to challenge the ‘Tarzan’ and settle their heated rivalry. In a recent interview, the former title contender shared his thoughts on Strickland as a fighter.

I don’t think he is anything special. He’s got a jab and a front kick… You shut those weapons down, and he’s very limited. He’s just a cardio kickboxer. I don’t see any threats out of Sean Strickland.

Covington’s frame is already small for the welterweight division as he doesn’t cut much weight before fights. However, the American fighter wants to challenge himself further to gain more size and fight middleweights. According to Covington, his speed and cardio will be too much for the middleweights to handle.

Covington has lost three out of his last four UFC bouts and is currently on a two-fight losing streak. He got dominated in his last bout against Joaquin Buckley and blamed it on his lack of training for the fight. However, the welterweight star is eager to bounce back, particularly against someone like Sean Strickland. He believes their rivalry will provide great entertainment to the fans.

Why does Sean Strickland hate Colby Covington?

Colby Covington and Sean Strickland share notable similarities, particularly in their outspoken personalities and trash-talking tendencies. Both fighters thrive on generating hype through controversial statements, a largely proven successful strategy. Despite these parallels, the two have made it clear that they don’t like each other.

Strickland has often accused Covington of having a fake personality and disrespecting fighters by crossing boundaries. When Covington mocked Leon Edwards’ late father, Strickland was among the first to highlight the insensitivity of his remarks. In an interview, the former middleweight champion shared a detailed explanation of why he strongly dislikes the Florida-based fighter.

He’s a fictitious perona like he is a f***** cunt. He’s a shady motherf*****. It annoys me because he panders to my base. My f***** Republicans, fu***** anti-government base. He’s not your people…he’s a fake human being.

Both Strickland and Covington are huge supporters of the Republican party and have frequently shown their respect for Donald Trump. While Covington talks about the blue-collar and first responders, it seems like the ‘Tarzan’ doesn’t like it. Nevertheless, all this drama would definitely help build an incredible rivalry between these two superstars.
