Chael Sonnen, who was in Covington’s corner, shared his thoughts on the situation. According to Sonnen, he couldn’t bear to watch ‘Chaos’ take so much beating. Consequently, he was one of the people who urged the doctors to stop the fight. Days later, Covington responded to Sonnen’s comments.
Although Covington accepted being cut in the right eye, he also remained determined to be the dominant fighter in his bout against Buckley. However, the doctors viewed his condition as more serious, warning that if he continued, he could risk severe injuries, including the possibility of going blind. Despite making a contradictory statement about the outcome of his fight, Covington ultimately experienced consecutive defeats for the first time in his career.
