Looks like a bout with Ian Garry is now a thing of the past for Covington. After months of intense back and forth and buildup, the former interim welterweight champion has moved on to Oliveira and Belal Muhammad. Covington currently ranks #4 in the welterweight division rankings. His last fight was last year in December at UFC 296. He lost to Leon Edwards via unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Oliveiraโs last fight was at UFC 300 where he lost to Arman Tsarukyan in a title-eliminator showdown via split decision. Now, Covington wants to create a legacy and fight Oliveira who is a former UFC lightweight champion. It will be interesting to see Oliveiraโs response after Covingtonโs comments on his native homeland.
