Michael ‘Venom’ Page and Ian Garry locked horns at UFC 303 in a welterweight bout. Despite the vast experience of ‘MVP,’ the young blood prevailed and took home a unanimous victory. A few weeks after the fight, there have been some shocking revelations. Ahead of the encounter, both Ian Garry and Michael Page indulged in extreme trash talks.
The highlight of their pre-fight press conference was when Garry accused MVP of trying to spy on the Irishman. At that time, Page didn’t comment about it but now things have come to light. Matheus Terra from Chute Boxe recently did an interview with MMA Fighting. He confirmed that he was offered $10k by someone from Page’s gym to infiltrate and gather information about Garry.Â
He called me and asked if I needed money. I thought he was going to invite me to teach seminars there or maybe fight, but he came with this offer. He wanted me to film [his training] and share Ian Garry’s gameplan with them, and they would pay me a $10,000 reward.

It seems like Garry’s accusations had some substance behind them. However, MVP has not yet responded to anything. Ahead of the fight, MVP called Garry a BBL version of Conor McGregor. Similarly, ‘The Future’ refused to acknowledge the former Bellator superstar as a legend.Â
At UFC 303, Page couldn’t counter Garry’s grappling despite finding some success on the feet. Garry’s grappling was also highlighted by Alexander Volkanovski when he previewed the fight on his YouTube channel. Other than that, many other experts were impressed by Garry’s performance.

With his win over Michael Page, Ian Garry has now extended his undefeated record to 15-0. The fighter is currently the #7 fighter in the welterweight division and is aiming for the title shot. However, Page doesn’t believe Garry doesn’t have the skill set to beat top fighters and become the champion.

Nevertheless, another top welterweight and BJJ expert, Gilbert Burns, was impressed by Garry’s grappling. In a recent interview, the Brazilian praised Garry for his improvements despite having a closely contested fight against the British striker.
I think in that fight, he wanted to showcase his improvements. That’s the best fight to show your improvements in the grappling because [Page] doesn’t have a lot [to offer in grappling] and he’s dangerous in striking. I think it was a very close fight, but I think Ian showed a lot of improvements in his grappling.

Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman also said the same thing. Despite the boring fight, Usman credited Garry for the win. Recently, the Irishman mentioned wanting to become the backup fighter for the title fight at UFC 304. It won’t be surprising to see Garry replace Leon Edwards or Belal Muhammad if things go according to his plan.
