Alex 'Poatan' Pereira targets December return; open to anyone

The world has its eyes set on the ongoing Paris Olympics. Some of the best athletes around the world are taking part in this event. It seems like Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg wants to be a part of it too. Also, he is not alone. The tech billionaire has brought in UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira with him.

Mark Zuckerberg is one of the only billionaires who has interacted with the UFC on multiple occasions. Zuckerberg recently created an entertaining video with Alex Pereira based on the Olympic theme. Zuckerberg posted the video on his Instagram with โ€˜Poatanโ€™s famous catchphrase in the caption.

In the skit, both of them were competing in various Olympic sports like fencing, boxing, the 100-meter dash, and more. Interestingly, the Meta CEO seemed to have even outperformed the Brazilian in some of those events. Meanwhile, โ€˜Poatanโ€™ seems to be on his much-deserved break after a busy first half of 2024.

Poatan headlined UFC 300 and went on to headline another short-notice showdown against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303. After multiple injuries and record-breaking PPV performance, the Brazilian decided to take some time off the octagon.

Alex Pereira will not fight Magomed Ankalaev

Magomed Ankalaevโ€˜s chances of facing UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira seem slim for now. Despite Ankalaevโ€™s persistent calls for a title shot since Pereira defended his 205-pound belt against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 in April, it looks like heโ€™ll have to wait longer.

After Pereira knocked out Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 in June, many thought Ankalaev would be next in line. However, Rizvan Magomedov, Ankalaevโ€™s manager, has revealed that Ankalaev has been matched with a different opponent.

The UFC seems to have other plans for Pereira, delaying Ankalaevโ€™s title shot. In an interview with Sport 24, Magomedov mentioned that while Pereira is still Ankalaevโ€™s main target, Ankalaev is focused on staying active and has a fight lined up for later this year:

I think we should expect this fight somewhere in the beginning of 2025. This fight should definitely happen. I agree with you… Magomed Ankalaev should fight for nothing but the title. As far as I understand, the organization has slightly different plans for Alex Pereira.

Ankalaev is coming off a knockout win against Johnny Walker in January after a previous fight with Walker ended in a no-contest. Before these, Ankalaev fought Jan Blachowicz for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 282 in December 2022, which resulted in a draw.
