Lightweight fighter Beneil Dariush is currently scheduled to fight rising lightweight Renato Moicano at UFC 311. The lightweight clash has garnered massive attention from fight fans. However, given Dariush’s last few fights, there are some doubts about his future in the UFC.

Beneil Dariush is 35 years old and is on his final stint in a professional fighting career. He wasn’t active in 2024 and lost two fights brutally in 2023. In a recent interview, the fighter talked about potentially retiring if he loses the upcoming clash with Moicano.

My whole point of coming here was to compete with the best in the world, fighti in the UFC and become the champion. If I can’t do that then I can’t do that.

Dariush was on a great run and defeated fighters like Tony Ferguson and Mateusz Gamrot and wanted to get close to the title opportunity. However, former champion Charles Oliveira stopped him via TKO finish. In the world of MMA, coming back from a finish like that is hard and that’s exactly what happened to Dariush against Arman Tsarukyan.

The lightweight division is widely regarded as the most challenging in the UFC, known for its intense competition and depth of talent. It is currently brimming with young, hungry fighters, all determined to do whatever it takes to claim UFC gold. As the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov recently advised, lightweight veterans should consider retiring before it’s too late.

Renato Moicano is known for his massive online fanbase and his popular catchphrase ‘easy money.’ He recently stirred the pot by labeling Beneil Dariush as an easy opponent. In response, Dariush didn’t hold back and delivered a sharp and fitting reply during a recent interview.

I have never had easy money. I don’t know what he talks about when he says easy money….my camps are brutal. By the time I get to the fight. Even if the fight is easier than others it was still a brutal camp.

UFC’s 2025 campaign is expected to start with a massive momentum with UFC 311. Other than the Moicano vs. Dariush fight, the whole card is stacked with incredible fights from top to bottom. In the co-main event, Merab Dvalishvili will defend his title against Umar Nurmagomedov. However, for Moicano, the main event bouts between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan would be more interesting to watch.
