Alex Pereira has saved multiple UFC main events in recent memory. His can-do attitude and willingness to fight anybody made him a star in a freakishly short amount of time. With Conor McGregor out, UFC 303 was on life support. The Brazilian powerhouse stepped up when the UFC needed him the most.

Pereira agreed to fight Jiri Prochazka on just 15 days’ notice, no less. However, fighting and training continuously at such a high level takes a toll. Alex Pereira recently admitted to feeling it ahead of the UFC 303 showdown. As such, fight fans would not see him again after UFC 303 till the end of the year.

I don’t know what will happen after [fighting at UFC 303]. But I also want to rest a little.

Alex Pereira isn’t planning on taking a long vacation. ‘Poatan’ revealed wanting to fight again at the end of the year, probably November or December. This makes it a measly layoff of just 5-6 months. For many other fighters, that sort of layoff is just a break after a fight. However, for Pereira, five months seems a long time.

Both Pereira and Prochazka recently fought at UFC 300 back in April. Pereira effortlessly knocked out Jamahal Hill in the first round. Jiri Prochazka, on the other hand, struggled a bit against Aleksandr Rakic. Ultimately, Prochazka won the bout via TKO stoppage in the second round. Pereira may enjoy his little vacation even more if he wins and secures a massive payout from the short-notice fight.

The last-minute fight changes are as common as cauliflower ears in MMA. At a time when the UFC’s $20 million gate was on the line as McGregor withdrew, they needed a real-life superhero. Enter Alex Pereira, the Brazilian powerhouse with fists of stone and a heart of gold. He swooped in to save the day for the promotion’s International Fight Week PPV event.

Pereira recently shed light on his dealings with Dana White and the company. It turns out that Poatan is not just a beast in the octagon; he’s also a gentleman at the negotiating table. He revealed his talks with the promotion regarding his payout for UFC 303 main event fight.

To be sincere, didn’t even think of it like that, ‘There is no one. I will give my price and they have to accept.’ I think it is good for both parties. Like I said, we have a good relation, been doing my job correctly. Never gave any trouble to the UFC, so I think they value that.

Pereira didn’t see a promoter with his back against the wall. Instead, he saw an opportunity for a fair deal. It’s refreshing to hear Pereira’s approach in an era where fight purses often overshadow the fights themselves. However, this doesn’t mean he was underpaid, as Pereira knows his worth, and so does the UFC.
