The controversy centered around a cryptocurrency called SMASH coin. Chimaev appeared in a promotional video for the digital currency. Shortly after, its value plummeted by almost 96%, with around a million dollars lost to the scam. All the promotional videos for the scam crypto were swiftly deleted from Khamzat Chimaev’s social media.

The cryptocurrency world and combat sports have become increasingly intertwined. Many fighters see it as a lucrative opportunity for endorsements. However, the volatile nature of digital currencies raises ethical questions about whether athletes should promote products they may not fully understand.
