Stipe Miocic Vs Jon Jones

Stipe Miocic will fight Jon Jones and nobody else. Things are finally moving forward and rumor has it they will potentially fight this November. UFC veteran, Matt Brown recently addressed the criticism surrounding this highly anticipated matchup.

Matt Brown recently sat down for a conversation on the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. During the discussion, Brown highlighted how things move too fast and people want to see the next big thing straight away. The UFC veteran stated that both Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones are legends and they both deserve to fight each other.

We’re all going to watch it if it happens. All the haters, all the blowback people, they’re all going to f***ing watch it. We’re all going to want to watch it. That’s who they should each be fighting. That is the right fight to make. It just happened to be taking way longer than it should be taking.

The fight between Jones and Miocic took so long because the heavyweight champion suffered a torn pectoral muscle that kept him out of action for the past year. Miocic was criticized for ‘holding up the heavyweight division’ which he contested saying that ultimately it is the UFC that decides who fights who.

Brown’s message to the people on this topic was to let the two fight and have their legend showdown. Both have done as much as anybody could imagine them doing in this sport. They should go out on a legendary fight and make some money. In fact, the UFC veteran urged the viewers to support the “two great fighters” so they make more money.

Matt Brown says Stipe Miocic does not have to be fast to fight Jon Jones

One of the big concerns in this fight is that Stipe Miocic will fight one of the best MMA fighters in UFC history at 42 years old. Is the former heavyweight champion set up for failure? Will his speed and reaction time in his forties hold him back in this fight?

According to Brown who himself is in his forties, Miocic is going to be fine. The UFC veteran highlighted in his interview on The Fighter vs. The Writer that the heavyweight division is different. It is neither a speed game nor a reaction game.

Now, Jon isn’t a slow guy, so Stipe is going to need his reactions as good as they can be, but it’s not the same game… There’s just not the same speed and reaction. You don’t move the same. There’s not those same quick, jerky movements. I think they’ll be fine.

Brown is also supportive of Jones fighting former champion Miocic rather than other active ranked heavyweights. Jones had made it clear that the fight against Stipe Miocic is a priority fight in terms of legacy regardless of other potential matchups like interim champion, Tom Aspinall.

Brown would love to see Jon Jones do a run at heavyweight, but said he does not have to. While Jon Jones may not go down in history as the greatest heavyweight champion, Brown said he will go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest MMA fighter of all time.
