Sean O’Malley and Ilia Topuria have had a long-running feud. Both fighters have exchanged insults online and expressed a desire to fight each other in a future super fight. While discussing the featherweight champ, O’Malley made some fascinating statements on his latest podcast episode.
Sean O’Malley spoke with his coach Tim Welch on his TimboSugarShow about Ilia Topuria’s future plans. During the conversation, O’Malley read a comment stating that Topuria’s career path would be similar to Cody Garbrandt‘s. Although ”Suga” originally denied the claim, he concluded it by insulting Topuria.

Cody Garbrandt, during his prime years, was one of the biggest superstars in the promotion. He had an undefeated title run and won the bantamweight title by beating Dominick Cruz in 2016. However, he immediately lost his title and then his career went downhill with multiple losses.

Topuria is currently undefeated and is yet to make his first title defense. The fighter has recently talked about fighting Max Holloway at the Las Vegas Sphere. However, there have been no official announcements regarding the fight. On the other hand, Sean O’Malley is also in line to fight the Georgian-Spanish superstar.

During his interview with the Full Send podcast, O’Malley revealed that he would move up to fight Ilia Topuria for the belt. The fighter gave the perfect scenario that would lead him to fight Topuria in the future.
I would take that fight, in Spain. I wanna go out there to knock out Merab, if he’s next. Ilia goes out there and does his thing, then I think that fight is f***** huge.

O’Malley and Topuria recently got into an internet spat over the featherweight champion’s pound-for-pound rankings.
