It’s good to be a king…and Bobby Green is now one in the game and in the name. Green’s nickname has been “King” for years. The lightweight fighter has said lately that he plans an official name change. On Sunday, Bobby Green posted a video on Instagram that suggested he’d follow through with the name change.

Bobby Green last snagged a unanimous nod over Jim Miller at UFC 300. In the aftermath, the lightweight star said he would have totally given into the dangerous motivator of a $300k bonus. ‘King’ knows the game prominently and isn’t afraid to drag a few heads behind for it. Now, he makes the status more official.

“King” Bobby Green now has an official legal record that he is Bobby King. Green showed a snap of his purported birth certificate and a second legal document showing the changed name. After his UFC Fight Night 222 encounter against Jared Gordon, Green had hinted that he’d do this. He has just achieved just that. With a name change for Bobby Green, will it enhance his luck?

Additionally, the lightweight veteran will also need to let go of his mixed bag of streaks; he is 3-1-1 in his last five. The name change might act as luck or not. Crazier things have happened in MMA. Currently, he is preparing to face British star Paddy Pimblett at UFC 304: Edwards vs Muhammad 2, UFC’s July 27 pay-per-view in Manchester. As such, he accordingly has some plans for that.

Paddy Pimblett takes on Green on home turf, Live from Co-Op in Manchester this month. Concurrently, he has had some choice words for Bobby Green in the lead-up. Battering Miller at UFC 300, afterward, Green called him out in his post-fight interview. According to him, the callout happened because Pimblett called him out first. Ever since, it has been a “he said it first” game.

As a result, much has ensued between them. Green has enjoyed perhaps the best run of his career over the past year. A year back, he choked out dangerous former interim champ Tony Ferguson in a $50,000 bonus-winning performance. Ten weeks later, he knocked out undefeated Grant Dawson in just 33 seconds to earn another bonus.

The magical run did end against Jalin Turner. After UFC 300, he has rebounded well. Now, he has the daunting task of defeating Pimblett in the UK. He knows Pimblett can be similarly stylistically demanding but takes issue elsewhere.

This is my next lesson for him: He’s solid, he’s not bad, ..He’s not a bad fighter at all. The problem is, he won’t shut the fu*k up. Shut the fu*k up, smile, be that st*pid kid with that st*pid haircut, being happy and dancing, whatever he does. He does that little st*pid dance, you know? Let him do his dance and be happy.

While the crowd-favorite gimmicks and adorable little dances are good and all, ‘King’ thinks Pimblett now goes too far to tout himself over others. Gordon; Ferguson; it’s been the same. His controversial win over Gordon was especially blinding. Since UFC 304’s announcement, he has been angsty. Now, the 37-year-old plans to teach him some humility.
