Injuries are a common occurrence in MMA. Fighters train hard, and injury is a part of it, resulting in cancelations and replacements. However, when it comes to Conor McGregor, even a pinky toe can cause quite a stir. Joe Rogan, the voice of the UFC, recently weighed in on McGregor’s withdrawal from UFC 303.

Joe Rogan is never one to mince words. He called McGregor’s decision to withdraw from UFC 303 as a wise choice. Rogan went on to explain the importance of that little pinky toe on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. For a fighter who kicks as much as McGregor, it’s apparently a big deal.

Here’s the thing about a broken pinkie toe. When you’re a guy who kicks as much as Conor, it’s a f***ing problem. It’s also the same foot where his leg was snapped, and he went into that fight injured…This is the first [fight] he’s pulled out of, and I think it’s wise.

Rogan reminded listeners that this was McGregor’s first fight withdrawal ever. He had an illustrious career, fought in two weight classes, but never withdrew. Rogan revealed that a single kick or misstep affecting the toe could put McGregor in agony and have drastic consequences on the fight.

McGregor’s teammate had recently stated that he would potentially return by September of this year. His fight with Michael Chandler remains one of the most anticipated events of the year. One thing is for sure: McGregor will fight only when he feels 100%.

McGregor dropped a bombshell while speaking to Severe MMA at the recent Bellator event in Ireland. ‘The Notorious’ revealed that he was eyeing an August or September comeback, citing the toe injury might not sideline him for the rest of the year.

The injury is a nuisance. It’s painful. I’m not going to lie. It’s very, very painful – probably even more than the leg, and that’s the truth…August-September, I’d love [to fight], You know the way it is. I’m in recovery mode.

McGregor’s recent comments suggested that he was itching to get back in the cage. Plus, his recent disclosure of Michael Chandler’s potential payout for the fight hints at the American lightweight waiting for the McGregor fight. Chandler, however, recently traded some words with the BMF champion Max Holloway as well. As of now, the UFC has not planned anything and it will remain like that till McGregor recovers.
