"He's the best P4P!" Georges St-Pierre backs Islam Makhachev in debate against Dana White and Jon Jones

Dana White is not a fan of Islam Makhachev ruling the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. According to the UFC CEO, as long as Jon Jones is active, nobody else deserves the position. However, as it turns out contrary to White, UFC legend, Georges St-Pierre favors Makhachev over Jones in the debate.

Georges St-Pierre recently did an interview with his head trainer, Firas Zahabi on his YouTube channel. During the conversation, GSP talked about Islam Makhachev and revealed that the Dagestani deserve the pound-for-pound number one spot.

He’s amazing. I think right now he’s the best pound-for-pound right now because of his last few performances. Amazing showcase of heart too because he has a bad cut on his forehead…That fight gonna make Makhachev even better because these fights make you grow.

Makhachev is one of the most active champions and is currently on a 14-fight win streak. However, that’s not enough for White to consider him the P4P ace. After UFC 302, White has backed Jon Jones for the position on several occasions. Jones is arguably the biggest superstar in the promotion. However, according to GSP, that’s not what pound-for-pound best means.

GSP has always been a big fan of Dagestani wrestling and has repeatedly praised Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two have frequently discussed fighting each other, but it never came to fruition. Makhachev’s most recent victory at UFC 302 puts him on track to become one of the best. However, GSP believes that everything is possible in the world of MMA.

During an interview, while talking about Makhachev, GSP credited the Dagestani’s skills and talent. However, according to the former champion, nobody is invincible.

His skill sets are amazing. I mean, he’s a champion for a reason. But nobody is invincible. Everybody can lose. Everybody can make a mistake.

With his third successful title defense, Islam Makhachev is ready to move up and get the second belt. With the UFC already onboard with the plan, it won’t be surprising to see it happen soon. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see whether the fighter can do something that very few have successfully achieved.
