Pereira’s narrative resonates with countless budding sportsmen. He was born poor and had to quit school early so he could labor as a bricklayer’s helper. However, at this juncture, he encountered the world of kickboxing. This sport became his refuge from life’s hardships. Pereira excelled in it, clinching numerous national titles for Brazil before claiming a stake in Glory Kickboxing.

Soon, the thirst for more drove him into mixed martial arts. However, adapting to MMA proved to be quite challenging. Despite a rocky start, with a loss in his MMA debut, Pereira’s determination never wavered. He went on a tear, knocking out four consecutive opponents.

The ambitious Brazilian then decided to go up to the light heavyweight division. He defeated former title holder Jan Blachowicz before ultimately beating Jiri Prochazka for the 205 lbs strap. He became a two-weight world champion in GLORY as well as achieving double champ status within UFC history.
