Renato Moicano is not a big fan of building a fighter’s union in the UFC. The Brazilian has recently started his own podcast, Show Me the Money in order to get close to fans and share his opinions. It seems like the fighter has just done that with some harsh words about the idea of a fighter’s union.

During a recent episode of the podcast, Renato Moicano blasted the idea of a potential union among UFC fighters. Moicano doesn’t like the socialist idea of creating and giving power to the union. According to the lightweight, it will have several negative impacts on the fighters.

I know a lot of you Motherf***** socialists. You guys saying that’s a good thing. I don’t like unions personally. Because if you leave your power in the power of the union, they gonna utilize you as a tool to get what they want.

Currently, there is no fighters’ union or association affiliated with the UFC. This has prevented the fighters from bargaining for more pay and benefits from the promotion. The UFC does not grant fighters many employee privileges because they are treated like contractors.

UFC currently pays its fighters around 19 percent of their total revenue. In comparison to other top leagues including MLS, NBA, NFL, etc, the proportion is significantly less. When it comes to fighters there has always been a mixed reaction towards the idea of a fighter’s union.

Over the years many have talked about the importance of fighters in the UFC and Jake Paul is one of them. During his ongoing scuffle with Dana White and UFC, Paul raised concerns about fighters’ pay and lack of healthcare facilities.

The YouTuber turned boxer even collaborated with MMA legend Anderson Silva to create a fighters union. However, that was much harder to do than it looked.

We’ve been working nonstop on it behind the scenes. It’s just … damn near impossible to figure this one out [laughs]. It’s very difficult. Very, very difficult… it takes a lot of people, a lot of brains, a lot of money…definitely this is a big three, four-year thing. It doesn’t happen overnight.

In addition, UFC veteran Georges St-Pierre and various other fighters built a Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association in 2016. It had aimed to raise concerns about fighter’s pay and other things. However, the association didn’t go as planned and was relinquished after a few years.
