Conor McGregor is the biggest star the UFC has ever seen. However, many believe he simply got too big and rich and that was what caused his downfall. Now that he is making a comeback, UFC champion, Islam Makhachev has a few things to say about McGregor.

Islam Makhachev recently sat down for a conversation with John McCarthy and Josh Thomson on the ‘Weighing In’ podcast. During their discussion, Makhachev talked about Conor McGregor and what brought him down.

When he just make like cr*zy money he changed you know. The drunk, the alcohol changed him and I think very hard too comeback for him. But I think finally, Chandler fight with him.

UFC CEO, Dana White had said a similar opinion. Conor McGregor has a net worth of somewhere between $200-$600 million. A fighter would not want to get up and get punched in the face every day if he was worth that kind of money, Dana White said.

However, Makhachev does not doubt Conor McGregor’s ability as a knockout artist in 2024. When asked who he would pick in that fight, Makhachev said McGregor could still knock out Chandler in the first round. However, if they go ‘more than one-two round’, Makhachev believes Chandler can beat the Irish star.

Despite a lack of stellar performance in his last few fights, Conor McGregor is still the biggest draw on the UFC roster. He is in the top 3 pick of many fighters and for good reason. Islam Makhachev is ready to follow in his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov’s footsteps and take on Conor McGregor this year.

Makhachev recently made an appearance on the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast hosted by Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman.

I can face him in August or September. He’s not the same as before. I don’t want to speak ill of him, but everyone knows he’s not the same.

Makhachev said McGregor used to be in good shape when he fought Khabib Nurmagomedov. He said he was a strong fighter whose biggest vice was his alcohol consumption. The Notorious is making a comeback at UFC 303. It will be interesting to see Makhachev and McGregor take on each other in the octagon.
