Colby Covington doesn’t want Ian Garry instead Khamzat Chimaev is his new target for a five-round fight. While Garry is fixated on getting a co-main event bout with Covington at UFC 303, the ‘Chaos’ has some other plans going on in his mind. The Fighter has talked about visiting an old rivalry and attending to unfinished business.
Colby Covington recently appeared on The Rush Podcast making a surprising announcement. Talking about his future fights, the fighter revealed that he’s interested in taking on Khamzat Chimaev next. Covington criticized Chimaev’s cardio and mentioned he would expose the ‘Borz’.
In a five round fight I would be super intrigued by that fight. I always told them I want this guy in a main event, I don’t think he can last. His cardio doesn’t look that good. His last fight he fought Usman at 185 on one weeks notice and I thought Usman won the fight…I think is gonna get exposed soon, he doesn’t have good cardio and he’s not as good as everybody thinks he is.

Last year in December, Covington fought for the welterweight title against Leon Edwards but was unsuccessful. On the other side, Chimaev’s next matchup is with Robert Whittaker at the upcoming UFC Saudi Arabia. This indicates that the fight will most likely occur at the end of the year if it has to happen.Â
It was a shocking move. Fans expected ‘Chaos’ to sign the contract to fight Ian Garry, due to the ongoing rivalry between the pair. On top of that, Covington had initially refused to fight Chimaev as a welterweight when the Russian called him out. But it seems like the dynamics have changed.

The rivalry between Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev goes way back and it has always been fierce. While both fighters have never come face to face, the animosity is pretty clear. It took an ugly turn when Covington called out Chimaev for missing weight at UFC 279.Â

Chimaev chose to move up after missing the weight, and Covington is now interested in competing against him in the middleweight division. The bout doesn’t appear to be coming anytime soon given the current situation. However, it will be intriguing to see what the UFC ultimately decides about these two fighters.
