Merab Dvalishvili hints at a Sean O’Malley fight happening

Rivalries are a part and parcel of the UFC. However, many find the rivalry between Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor odd. The war of words between the UFC superstars keeps escalating. O’Malley believed that McGregor’s recent verbal jabs stemmed from jealousy.

Conor McGregor had lashed out at Ryan Garcia and O’Malley last week. He slammed Garcia for failing drug tests for Ostarine and then targeted O’Malley’s past issues. This prompted the bantamweight champion to respond in kind. O’Malley detailed what must have happened for McGregor to target him recently.

I think there is a lot of jealousy. People like that [Conor McGregor], with that big of an ego, he can see what’s happening. He’s starting to get pushed out, and I’m starting to come up. It’s like, there’s no other reason for him to talk about me.

O’Malley also revealed that McGregor had urged him to sign with his management company, but he declined. He believed McGregor couldn’t see his success and was now downplaying him. O’Malley also recently stated he would root for Michael Chandler to knock out Conor McGregor at their upcoming UFC 303 bout. This is a surreal ‘idol turned rival’ moment for O’Malley.

O’Malley was suspended for failed drug tests for Ostarine back in 2018 and 2019. However, it was later revealed that it was due to a tainted supplement. O’Malley himself is coming off a dominant win over Marlon Vera. He is potentially slated to fight against Merab Dvalishvili next.

The cat seems to be out of the bag. According to Merab Dvalishvili himself, he’s finally secured his long-awaited title shot. The Georgian fighter revealed his next challenge. ‘The Machine’ revealed that he would fight Sean O’Malley at UFC 306 on September 14th for the bantamweight title.

Dvalishvili revealed this information during a meet and greet in India alongside UFC fighter Anshul Jubli. He said the fight would occur at the highly anticipated Sphere venue in Vegas. This is quite a stage for Dvalishvili’s first UFC title opportunity. ‘The Machine’ had pushed for a title shot for quite some time now.

Of course, this information must be taken with a grain of salt. The UFC hasn’t officially confirmed this championship matchup yet. Also, White announced recently that he had reserved the Sphere for Mexican Independence Day. So, this fight between the Georgian Merab Dvalishvili and the American Sean O’Malley does not make sense. Fight fans would have to wait for the UFC to announce the card for UFC 306 officially.
