Last Thursday, Ary ‘AstroBoy’ Farias edged out opponent Carlos Veras to a split decision win at Shooto Brazil 122. In doing so, Farias staked his claim on the Shooto Brazil vacant bantamweight championship strap. However, there was more reason for celebration as the fighter out of Manaus, Amazonas, soon took to proposing to his girlfriend in the aftermath.

The scope of combat sports can see many diverse sights. It ranges from nasty last-ditch KOs going viral to somebody spilling their guts out during a fight. However, some sights are heartwarming and come in rarity. After his bout, Ary Farias called upon his girlfriend Diana de Moraes (@diana_moraes) and put a ring on her finger. An MMA Clinical and Sports Nutritionist, Moraes caters to him as well, helping to make weight cuts.

MMA and successful spousal support go hand in hand sometimes. UFC 299’s bantamweight title contender Marlon Vera similarly went viral with behind-scenes weight cut footage with his wife. María Paulina Escobar tended to him during his hash at UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Vera. ‘AstroBoy’ and Moraes follow suit of many other fighters who have gone similarly viral. However, the fighter’s initiative is enlightening to watch.

With his win, the Brazilian bantamweight is now on a two-fight win streak. The grappling stalwart last won at Shooto Brazil 119. With a Round 1 submission (Rear-Naked Choke) of Sergio Ribeiro, he thrust his way into title contention. Now, with a win over Carlos Veras, he finally achieved two dreams in one shot.

What’s next for Ary Farias after defeating Carlos Veras at Shooto Brazil 122?

Seven times IBJJF World Jiu-Jistu champ & Bazilian 135lber Ary ‘AstroBoy’ Farias is quite the pro grappler. Alongside, he’s also a CBJJ Brazilian Nationals and  IBJJF European titleholder. Farias also shares lineage with the Gracie Family, all the way from Carlos Gracie to Ramon Lemos. Hence, his mettle as a true Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu savant is not surprising.

Farias has clashed against famous MMA and grappling notorieties as well, like Mikey Musumeci, for the IBJJF World Championship 2018. Now, the pro-grappler from Top Brother MMA met Brazilian peer Carlos Veras for the vacant 135-pound hardware. Veras was on an undefeated five-win streak, which fell at the hands of ‘AstroBoy’ at Shooto Brazil 122.

Farias and Veras went the distance and competitively fought all five rounds in the Co-main event of Shooto Brazil 122. At the end of their title fight, ‘AstroBoy’ saw his hand raised by referee Igor Falcao, earning a split decision on the judges’ scorecard. He extended his record to 13-4, and at the moment, the fighter is on back-to-back wins.

“Shooto Brazil” already boasts some industry greats who have made their mark on a global platform in the UFC. Glover Teixeira and Alexandre Pantoja are prime examples. It remains to be seen if Ary Farias can bank on his momentum and rise to similar heights.
