Justin Gaethje wants revenge for his UFC 300 knockout loss. He went as far as to tell the NELK Boys that rematching Max Holloway was his dream fight. ‘The Highlight’ wants a chance at redemption for his viral knockout with just one second left on the clock.
Justin Gaethje was on a recent episode of Full Send Golf. Gaethje made some interesting comments in the episode, including wanting to rematch Holloway. He revealed that avenging his loss to Dustin Poirier had a nice feeling. As such, he wanted the chance to avenge his humiliating UFC 300 loss.
I wouldn’t mind getting the Max fight back, but that’s probably because of recency bias from my last loss, so you always want that one back. I got Poirier beat me, and I got to get that one back. That was nice. Give it a redemption. Not often do you get that chance in the sport.

Gaethje said it was hard to picture himself fighting with someone from a different era. He listed out the fighters he had already fought, such as Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Edson Barboza, Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier, and Max Holloway. Further, Gaethje also pondered about the last ten seconds of his BMF title fight.

He had done a flip-kick with 10 seconds left on the clock. Max Holloway pointed, and they both jogged to the center of the octagon. Gaethje said he wanted to put on an incredible show so he would not back down. He said there was just no option but to accept that challenge.

It was 1 second left on the clock when Gaethje was knocked out. Max Holloway got the BMF title and a massive $600K bonus.

‘The Highlight’ ranks #3 in the UFC’s lightweight rankings. However, with the damage from the knockout, he will likely be away from the octagon for a while. This means he is out of the title fight discussion until he recovers. This would create an interesting dynamic in the lightweight division with an upcoming title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier at UFC 302.
